Bio

Piotr Wolski describes himself as a hydro-climatologist who revels in the challenges associated with translating climate data into useful information. He has been a researcher with the UCT Climate System Analysis Group (CSAG) since 2012. There he uses climate models’ output for hydrological analyses in the context of climate change impact assessment, attribution and seasonal forecasting. He also works on various aspects of visualization and presentation of climate data, including articulation of uncertainties, developing visualizations such as “plume plots”, and analytical tools such as “SOM-space trajectories”. During the drought he wrote a series of widely-read articles providing science-based perspectives on the crisis and developed interactive web tools providing information on current rainfall and forecast of state of Cape Town’s dams.
