Bio

Nathan Geffen is the editor of GroundUp, a non-profit news agency focusing on human rights stories that he founded in 2012. Groundup’s news articles are made available for republication, usually under a Creative Commons license, to news publications. During the water crisis GroundUp produced numerous articles covering the drought and the poor’s access to water more generally. Nathan is a computer science graduate of UCT who, in 2000, joined the Treatment Action Campaign, lobbying government for an active and proportionate response to the HIV-AIDS epidemic. Since leaving TAC in 2013 and while building GroundUp, Nathan studied at UCT for a PhD in the application of computer modelling in the field of HIV-AIDS epidemiology.
