Bio
Barry Wood (PrEng) is the City of Cape Town’s Manager: Bulk Water within the Water and Sanitation Department, a position he has held since 2014. His team of 800 people is responsible for water resource and infrastructure planning, development of water supply schemes as well as management of City owned dams and other water sources, water treatment plants, large diameter pipelines and regional water storage reservoirs.
Barry holds a B.Sc (Civil Eng) degree from the University of Cape Town and is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa. Prior to this, he was Manager: Catchment, Stormwater and Rivers within the City’s Roads and Stormwater Department over the period 2006 to 2013 and has a combined 33 years of experience in the delivery of municipal infrastructure services.
Barry’s team was responsible for ensuring an uninterrupted supply of high quality drinking water to the city and some of the surrounding municipal areas throughout the severe 2015-18 drought.
