Councillor Xanthea Limberg is a politician with the Democratic Alliance who serves as Mayoral Committee member for Informal Settlements, Water & Waste Services and Energy – a post she took up in February 2017 and held throughout the water crisis. Prior to this she was the Mayoral Committee member for the Corporate Services Directorate and has also served as portfolio chairperson for Economic Development, Environment and Spatial Planning Portfolio as well as the Energy and Climate Change Committee. Xanthea was born in Cape Town, then moved to Durban, Joburg and Zambia before returning to Cape Town to finish school and attend UCT, where she studied politics and public policy and joined the Independent Democrats student body. While there she joined the Independent Democrats as a volunteer and by 2009 she was working for the party as a researcher. When the ID merged with the DA in 2010 she joined the DA.
